Program Description

Food, Health & Lifestyle in Italy is an immersive, eight-day experience taking °®åú´«Ã½ from Rome to Florence to give them first-hand knowledge of Italian food and culture, and how that leads to a healthy lifestyle. Stops will be made at historical sites such as the Colosseum and Roman Forum, while taking food tours in Florence and Rome. To enhance the already enriching experience, two nights will be spent at an Agriturismo in Tuscany to give the °®åú´«Ã½ an appreciation for the production, quality, and traditions of Italian foods. Educational activities such as cooking classes and guest lectures will complete the experience.

Course Eligibility & Requirements:

  • All °®åú´«Ã½ participating on the program must take one of the appropriate course offerings listed above for 3 credits.Ìý
  • Undergraduate °®åú´«Ã½ need a minimum of 30 credit hours completed prior to the program to be eligible for the program. Exception may be made on case-by-case basis with program leader approval.Ìý
  • Online course participation will be required before and after the in-country program dates. This will take place during the summer term. More information regarding the online course participation will be provided by the Primary Faculty Leader.Ìý

Program Eligibility & Requirement

  • Undergraduate °®åú´«Ã½ must have a 2.5 overall GPA at the time of application and 30 credit hours earned before program starts. Exception may be made on case-by-case basis with program leader approval.Ìý
  • Graduate °®åú´«Ã½ must have a 3.0 overall GPA at the time of application
  • Must be in good academic standing at the time of application
  • Must be eligible to take °®åú´«Ã½ courses during the study abroad program term

Important notice! Passport processing times have changed. Review up-to-date details .

Routine processing times can take 10-13 weeks, and expedited applications in 7-9 weeks. Processing times begin when your application is received by a passport agency or center, and do not include mailing times. It may take up to 2 weeks for your application to be received by passport agency, and up to 2 weeks for you to receive your completed passport after agency mails it to you. Therefore, you should add an additional 4 weeks to you passport application processing time.Ìý

A valid passport is required for all international travel. If you are traveling anywhere abroad, you need a passport to board an international flight and to enter the country. Passport cards will not be accepted as form of I.D. You may be denied boarding if you travel with a passport that appears damaged or altered.

Some countries require that your passport be valid at least six months beyond the dates of your trip. Some airlines will not allow you to board if this requirement is not met. Check the to learn about entry and exit requirements for the country or countries in which you are traveling. Ìý

If you are applying for a passport for the first time, you need to renew your passport, or you have any other passport questions, you can find information on the website. Location

Italy is located in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea and is one of Western Europe's youngest countries.The capital city, Rome, offers 2,500 years of history from from the Coliseum, the Imperial Forum and the Roman Pantheon, to Vatican City, with the Sistine Chapel and Vatican museums. The treasured city of Florence is frequently named one of the most beautiful cities in the world for it's Renaissance art and architecture.Ìý

Program participants will stay in double or triple occupancy rooms in 3-star hotels in the city center of Rome and Florence.

$2,998 program fee + tuition for the required program summer course(s). °®åú´«Ã½ in-state or out-of-state rates apply.Ìý

Program Fee Includes:

  • Hotel accommodations from check-in through check-out date
  • International medical insurance
  • Daily breakfast, 3 lunches, and 4 dinners
  • Ground transportation on arrival day from the Fiumicino International Airport to Rome city center between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM on June 3, 2024.
  • Group shuttle transportation on departure day from Florence city center to Amerigo Vespucci Airport. Pick-up location TBD.Ìý

  • Guest lecture: Food, health and longevity in ItalyÌý

Activities and excursions are subject to change by faculty leader or program provider/vendor if needed. All efforts would be made to provide a replacement activity or excursion.

Health & Safety

International health and travel insurance

All °®åú´«Ã½ °®åú´«Ã½ participating on an °®åú´«Ã½ Faculty-led Program will be registered in international health and travel insurance coverage through Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI). This mandatory insurance ensures that °®åú´«Ã½ have access to medical and emergency support services while abroad. This is included in the program cost.

Regarding increased access because of being vaccinated, please be aware that businesses and services may legally restrict access to exclude unvaccinated individuals. Local ordinances may allow the same. In such cases, °®åú´«Ã½ won’t be able to intervene or advocate on your behalf.
