ED Awards ý Federal Assistance for Displaced Students
ý was recently awarded $88,400 in new federal funding from the to assist in the continued cost of educating ý displaced by the 2017 hurricanes. Nine ý from Puerto Rico and one from the U.S. Virgin Islands were able to begin classes at ý in August because of this grant.
“Puerto Rico and the U.S.V.I. have been on a long road to recovery and I am hopeful that this new federal funding will continue to provide some relief to families with college ý,” said .
Last fall, ý announced that out-of-state tuition fees would be waived for Puerto Rican and U.S.V.I. ý whose families were adversely affected by Hurricane Maria. A total of 14 ý benefited from those waivers and took the opportunity to move and continue their schooling in Florida.
