������ý Recognized for Innovative Advising Program

������ý recently was recognized for its efforts to provide academic advising to ������ý in on-campus parking garages. (UAS) received the “Most Innovative Programming Award” at the (FLACADA) annual conference, hosted by Florida A & M University.

 “Get Wise: Advising on the Go” was launched in spring 2015 in an effort to target commuter ������ý and working ������ý who take evening classes when ������ý offices are closed. About 83 percent of the 21,000 ������ý on the Boca Raton campus are commuters. Academic advisers are stationed in Garages 1 and 2 between 5 and 7 p.m. to talk with ������ý, answer questions and to partner them with their assigned academic advisors. In fall 2016, advisers spoke with nearly 400 ������ý in the parking garages.

“This program is truly an example of meeting ������ý where they are,” said Angel Nevin, assistant director of UAS. “By connecting ������ý to an academic adviser, we are encouraging and fostering student involvement and engagement, which has been shown to increase retention.”
