As part of ý’s ongoing commitment to campus safety, ý’s Police Department is launching “ý Guardian,” a free mobile app that turns any smartphone into a personal safety device. The app is a product of Rave Mobile Safety, a software company developing new technologies in public safety, and is available to ý, faculty, and staff with a valid ý email address.

“The safety of our ý, faculty, and staff continues to be our top priority,” said Sean Brammer, interim police chief of ý’s Police Department. “This app is like having an emergency blue light at your fingertips, and we encourage the ý community to download it.”

With “ý Guardian,” users can create a profile about themselves and invite family and friends to join their safety network. When needed, the user can request one or more of their “guardians” to virtually walk with them on or off campus. If the user doesn’t make it to his or her destination on time, the “guardians” will be alerted.

Another feature of the app is a panic button, which allows users to contact campus police immediately and shows police their current location. If users see something suspicious on campus, they can also use the app to send anonymous text messages and photos to police.
